The Governing Council of McPherson University (McU), Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has approved the appointment of Prof. Julius Olatunji Okesola as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the university with effect from November 16, 2023.

In statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Sanmi Enigbokan said the decision was taken at the 41st statutory meeting of the Council held same day, and it is for two years in the first instance and renewable for another two years based on satisfactory performance.

The new DVC would be responsible to the VC in discharging his responsibilities as it relates to academic administration; curriculum development; examination, admission and other Senate matters.

He is also saddled with the duties of liaising with external agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations in the overall interest of the university development, research and innovation; and other assignments as may be given to him by the VC.

Prof. Okesola obtained his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from Methodist Grammar School, Igbo-Ora, Oyo State in 1986. He proceeded to Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State where he obtained a B.Sc in Mathematics & Computer Sciences in 1992; MBA in Finance from Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State in 2002; M.Sc in Computer Sciences from University of Lagos, Akoka in 2004 and Ph.D in Computer Sciences and Security from University of South Africa, Pretoria, South Africa in 2015.

Prior to his foray into academics in 2008, Prof. Okesola has served at senior management capacities in various banks in Nigeria on Revenue Assurance as well as Information Security (IS) related issues for almost two decades, and has equally supervised, trained, and mentored IS auditors and security professionals.

His academic trajectory started as Lecturer 1 (2008 – 2013), Senior Lecturer (2016 – 2019) and cumulated in full Professorship in 2020. Currently, he is a Professor of Cyber Security at McPherson University with over 70 scholarly publications in high impact journals, books and conference proceedings. He is a visiting professor and an External Examiner to a number of universities in and outside Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, on behalf of the university community, congratulates Prof. Okesola on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure.
