lions Club, Ipakodo, has donated three recycling receptacles to Ipakodo community, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State. District Governor of 404 A1, Anogwi Anyanwu, said: “The donation is to turn waste to wealth by keeping the environment clean and friendly.

“This also coincided with the government campaign on moving from linear economy to a circular and environmentally resilient economy.

“Linear economy is the traditional model where raw materials are collected and transformed into products that consumers use until discarding them as waste, with no concern for their ecological footprint and consequences.

“A circular economy is one in which everyone’s waste becomes someone’s raw material. It ensures resources are maintained within the economy even when a product has reached the end of its life so that they can be economically used again and again and thus create additional value.”

The three recycling receptacles are positioned at Ipakodo Health Centre,  Sekumade Palace of Ipakodo Kingdom and KD Place Eatery.

President of Ipakodo Lions Club, Oluwatosin Akinwale-Oloshunde, tasked residents to make use of recycling receptacles judiciously “because of its environment and economic benefits. The project was initiated as part of club effort to promote clean and friendly environment, which is one of the core project of Lions Clubs International.

“Clean and friendly environment can’t be achievable without a strategy to reduce waste generation and ensure a sustainable and healthy environment.

“A circular economy is one in which everyone’s waste becomes someone’s raw material. Plastic is bad when it is not properly disposed of. It clog the drainage and cause flooding.

“When you use plastic, recycle it. You can use it up to 10 times. It is a global trend. All the plastic on the streets could be recycled. We can export them and turn them into money and this why our club consider donation of recycling receptacles to different communities very important.”
