The Head of Starfield Schools, Mrs. Juliana Eigbe has advised her students to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship in any sports activities they are participating in.

Eigbe gave the charge at the 11th Inter-House Sports competition of Starfield primary and secondary schools held at Agege Stadium, Lagos.

She said: “Let us all uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, respect for one another, and a sense of community that defines our schools. Let’s make the 11th inter-house sports event a reflection of our unity, our friendliness, and our shared love for sports.”

Eigbe observed that as students compete in various sporting events, they should remember that the essence of sports lies not only in victory but also in the value of teamwork, dedication and fair play.

The head of schools urged the students to put in their best, compete with integrity and support fellow housemates.

Chairman of the event, Mrs. Abosed Ogunsile said school inert-house sports would help to promote academic performance and sharpened the skills of the pupils.

Ogunsile, who was represented by Mrs. Titi Apatira advised schools to engage students in sporting activities and that through such exercise, new talents can be discovered.   

The Director of Studies (DOS), Mr. Chris Eigbe said the students have exhibited the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, camaraderie and fairness during the various events.

According to him, the event serves to remind us of the power of teamwork and the joy of friendly competition and that the success of achievements reflect positive engagement.   

In her remarks, the Principal of Starfield College, Mrs. Sara Oyinloye described sports as good for the total well being of a child thus schools should promote sporting activities.

Oyinloye urged schools in the country to accord sports priority, adding, now people in sports are making huge money.”

She tasked the competitors to carry forward the spirit of sportsmanship, resilience, teamwork and excellence. 

Result for the primary school event showed that White House emerged winner with 10 gold, nine silver and nine bronze, 2nd position went to 10 gold, nine silver and eight bronze, third position went to Red House with eight gold, four silver and eight bronze while Sky Blue placed 4th with four gold, ten silver and eight bronze.

In the secondary school category, Blue House bagged 12 gold, seven silver and four bronze to emerge winner of the inert-house competition, followed by Red House with six gold, six silver and two bronze, Green House placed 3rd with five gold, seven silver and ten bronze while Yellow House with two gold, five silver and nine bronze placed 4th.
