Men of the Plateau State police command have arrested a man for collecting ransom in advance from a would be kidnap victim.

Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, who paraded the suspect among other criminals in Jos on Friday, said that the suspect, identified as Suleiman Adamu Garba of Nanga Gindiri, in Mangu local government area of Plateau State, in conjunction with one Adamu Langai who is now at large, had phoned their victim threatening to pay them N1million or he would be kidnapped.

The police commissioner said that the would be victim, after paying the money, had reported to the police at Gindiri divisional Headquarters and investigation commenced immediately.

He said, “During our investigation, the anonymous caller was tracked through his GSM number and was eventually arrested by Gindiri police operatives in connection to the reported incident.

“On interrogation, the suspect named, Suleiman Adamu Garba ‘m’ of Nanga Gindiri, Mangu LGA of Plateau State confessed voluntarily to have committed the offence with one Adamu Langai who is now at large.

He said that the case is still under investigation and efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Among those paraded were armed bandits, cultists and rapists.

According to him, in another of the cases, on 19/04/2024 at about 4pm, the police received a report at the Bokkos Divisional Headquarters, that on the same date at about 2pm, one Damlan Mallan, Maju Philemon and Mandic Daniel all male of Tenti, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area while on their way to the farm at Gawarza village in Bokkos Local Government Area, that their motorcycle developed a mechanical fault.

Consequently, they stopped and attempted to repair it when suddenly; a number of armed hoodlums unexpectedly opened fire on them and shot one Damla Mallan.

Adesina said that on receipt of the report, Police detectives from Bokkos division immediately rushed to the scene where the lifeless body of the victim lay motionless. They immediately rushed him to the Cottage Hospital Bokkos, from where he was referred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH); he eventually died on the way.

“The Police action later resulted in the arrest of the following suspects: one Sani Mohammed male, Buhari Mamuda male and Haruna Abdullahi, male, who was indicted by one Rebecca Danjuma in relation to the 24/12/2023 attack on Bokkos LGA and was also mentioned by a kingpin one Jibrin Musa Goje who was paraded by the force PRO as his co-conspirator in a crime.

“On 21/04/2024 at about 2pm while the natives of Gawarza and Chireng villages were returning from burying the corpse, one Hassan Abdullahi and Mohammed Sani both male barricaded the road in an attempt to attack the mourners while on their way back to their various residences.

“The two suspects have all been arrested. The case is under investigation at the State CID Jos, and will be charged to court upon conclusion of our investigations.

The commissioner said that his command have succeeded in putting an end to the activities of some criminal-minded individuals l whose perception of a decent life is to steal, rob, kill, destroy properties, kidnap, burgle dwelling places of unsuspecting citizens and commit other heinous crime in the State.
