This tribute is in memory of a great man, our dear brother and director, Chief Christian Chinonso Okoye (Oba-Aku na Adazi Ani), Mazi.

Chief Chinonso was a warm, kind, compassionate, industrious man and, more importantly, a loving son, father and brother. Mazi, as we fondly called you, when I got the news of your death, I was shocked and saddened.

Death has taken you away and deprived everyone that came in contact with you, including me, of a good man.

I have fond memories working with you.

Your life was very eventful and impactful.

You put smiles on everyone that came in contact with you.

I celebrate the life you lived.

Chief Christian Chinonso Okoye (Oba-Aku) was a kind-hearted man. He left an indelible impression on everyone he encountered for good, and he had a way of making everyone he encountered feel seen, heard and loved.

To his family, he brought joy and happiness; as a son, he was loyal and dependable; as a brother, he was not just a sibling but also a companion. To his friends and associates, he was a pillar and support in times of need. He was a loving son, a caring father and a devoted friend. He was a man of the people.

The people of Adazi Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, have lost an illustrious son whose shoes no one can fill.

His sudden death last week has created a gap in his family and in the life of everyone who knew him. Chinonso has left this earth but the things he did live after him and he will not be forgotten.

Like the hymn composer, Ira David Sankey, wrote:

“Fading away like the stars of the morning;

Losing their light in the glorious sun;

Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling; Only remembered by what we have done…”

He was born on a bright day and since then he brought joy and warmth to our lives. He had a radiant smile, a gentle voice and a playful spirit.

I take solace that you are resting in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Adieu and good night.
