The Kebbi State Police Command has repelled attack by suspected bandits on Dan-Umaru village in Bena district of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area (LGA), recovered rocket launcher and arrested suspected rapists as well as armed robbers terrorising the people of the state.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Samuel Titus Musa, who stated this while parading the suspects and ammunition recovered from the bandits, said the achievements recorded were made possible due to the support of Acting Inspector of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris.

While breaking down the police breakthrough, Musa said,”unknown armed bandits invaded Dan-umaru Village, Bena district of Danko/Wasagu LGA. On receipt of the report, a combined team of policemen from Dan-ummaru Police Station and vigilantes, swiftly responded and engaged them to a gun duel.

“They successfully repelled the attack and recovered one rocket launcher. The suspects escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds,” he said.

Musa also disclosed that illegal weapons were recovered from four suspected armed robbers namely; Micheal Yunusa, Abu Yayi Alhaji, Bomboy Dan karami and Danjuma Ibrahim.

He said they “conspired with each other in possession of locally made revolver guns and prohibited live ammunition; they used the weapons to attacked the duo of Abubakar Alhaji Dikko ‘m’ of Ribah and Umar Garba ‘m’ of, Danko/Wasagu LGA and robbed them of three motorcycles valued at about N800,000. Investigation has been completed and suspects already charged to court for prosecution”.

The commissioner of police also paraded five suspects for allegedly raping of a 16-year-old girl, and another man for raping a 10-year-old girl.

He said: “On August 17, 2023, at about 1300hrs, one Ahmed Muhammed `m’ of Koko town, Koko-Besse LGA, reported that his daughter, one Nadiya Ahmed `f’, aged 16 years, of same address, left his house to unknown destination.

During investigation, she was traced somewhere in Koko town and when interviewed, she disclosed that one Suleiman Abubakar, Yunusa Garba, Suleiman Hamza, Yahaya Abubakar and Shamsudden muhammed, all `males’ of the same address, lured her to their houses on different occasions and had sexual intercourse with her. Suspects have been apprehended and, on conclusion of investigation, they will be arraigned in court.

“On 21/08/2023, at about 2100hrs, one Yusha’u Adamu `m’ of Aleiro town, reported that on 18/08/2023, at about 1800hrs, his younger sister’s daughter, one Amina Isiya `f’ aged 10 years, of the same address, was defiled by one Saidu Sani, a.k.a Dankahuwa `m’ of the same address. After having carnal knowledge of the victim, he threatened to kill her if she dared reveal the secret’’.

He added that the command also arrested a woman, Hauwa Suleiman, an indigene of Babbar Dog village in Maru LGA of Zamfara State, in possession of 566 rounds of 7.62×39mm live ammunition. He stressed that her case was still under investigation.

Speaking of the fake soldier arrested in Katsina State with stolen vehicle, Musa explained that he came to Birnin Kebbi on the pretence of purchasing a Jazz vehicle and ran away with the car in the process of test running it.

“On July 23, 2023, at about 0845 hrs, one Faisal Saidu ‘m’ aged 21 years, of Kawarin Kudi, Zango LGA of Katsina State, dressed in military camouflage uniform, bargained a motor vehicle Honda Jazz at a cost of N2,200,000, in Birnin Kebbi town.

“While test driving the said vehicle, he fraudulently ran away with the motor vehicle without paying. The suspect was trailed and arrested in Katsina State with the vehicle while trying to sell it to an unsuspecting buyer. Investigation has been completed and the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.”

Other suspects were paraded for various offences ranging from stolen motorcycles, robbery and fraud.
