Miffed by the increase in price of goods and commodities, despite the Naira exchanging for N1,227, to 1 US Dollar as against what it was in the last six months, the Eze Ndigbo Ifako Ijaiye, Eze Michael Ezekwobi, has said that Nigerians are yet to feel the positive effect that should go with crash in the exchange rate.
In a statement, Ezekwobi said it is surprising that the cost of foodstuff grown locally has gone up, even as the price of petroleum products increases steadily.
While calling on the federal government’s economic team to look inwards and come out with homegrown economic policies that would see the country out of the wood, the royal father said that agriculture remains the magic wand with which Nigeria can recover from its present condition.
On the hike in electricity tariff and classing of consumers by Discos into bands, Ezekwobi said it is the masses that would be exploited at the end of the day.
“If I may ask you, how many people in the rural areas understand what band a, b, c mean? I will advise the Discos to create more awareness through adequate sensitisation programmes,” he said.
