• Mother Cries for Help

From Paul Orude, Bauchi

Seventeen-year-old Hannah Adesonya has been diagnosed with a tumour on her left jaw and faces a life-threatening situation unless she undergoes a surgery costing N500,000.

Dr Taye Toni of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), who initially handled Hannah’s case, advised that the tumour must be removed to prevent further spread. He explained that the surgery involves removing the affected bone and replacing it with an implant, such as an iron rod.

“The iron will be put there to help form a new bone,” he explained.

The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at a centre in Gombe.

Hannah’s mother, Remi, has been a single parent since her husband, Yomi Adesonya, abandoned the family when Hannah was just three years old. Remi is now in a desperate situation, unable to afford the life-saving surgery for her daughter.

Hannah, who just wrote her O-level examination, is facing a race against time. Her helpless mother is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid so that Hannah can receive the necessary medical attention.

“When I noticed that the left part of her face around her jaw was swollen, I initially thought it was tooth pain,” Remi explained.

“It appeared like a boil, but my sister suggested that we rush her to the hospital as the pain was getting worse.

“I first took her to the Specialist Hospital in Bauchi, where an x-ray was done, and she was referred to ATBUTH.

“After examining my daughter, the doctor expressed surprise and called his colleagues.

“They came to see and they too were surprised, and the doctor asked me to go back to the Specialist hospital to do a CT scan.

“The result was brought back to the doctor, who reported that my daughter has no left cheekbone and surgery, which will cost N500,000, is required to correct it.

“I don’t even have N15,000, but the doctors explained that the surgery has to be done because it can affect my daughter’s brain.

“I am appealing to well-meaning Nigerians and organizations to come to my aid to save my daughter’s life.”
