Ten-years-old Miss Christabel Osazuwa, a Basic 5 pupil of Emfode Academy, Port Harcourt, Rivers State is not your ordinary day girl. At birth, she had an acute Kyphosis of the thoracolumbar region, with associate Scoliosis, which is responsible for her inability to walk or stand.

It was confirmed by doctors that she has a blockage at her spine, which can only be corrected surgically with N10 million.

Described as gifted by her teachers, Christabel said she wants to be a doctor when she grows up. “I will like to help people that are sick. To be sick is not a good thing. I don’t like it when people are sick. That’s why I am not happy the way I am. I want God to answer my prayers so that I can walk,” she said.

Her mother, Mrs Evelyn Osazuwa, said taking care of her has been difficult. The mother of three said she seriously seeks God’s miracle on her daughter.

“We have been to different hospitals, done series of scans and x-rays, and they told us that it can be corrected, but the major problem we have been facing over the years is money for her surgery,” she said.

She said when Christabel was born, it was discovered that she has a blockage at her spine and that all hospitals they visited said it could only be corrected through surgery.

She said: “We live in Port Harcourt, and we have visited about three hospitals here. There is this hospital in Port Harcourt, Save a Life Hospital, that said surgery can be done in India.

“A doctor in Enugu said it could be done in Nigeria. Whether Nigeria or India, all I want is for my baby girl to be able to walk, unaided. We were told it could be corrected with N10 million. My husband and I don’t even have N100,000 in our account. Please, Nigerians should come to our aid.

“I want to personally appeal to Gov. Siminalayi Fubara to help my little girl walk again. There is nothing God cannot do. Please, we need help.

“One day she asked me: ‘Mummy, why is it that I can’t walk like my brother and sister?’ That day, I cried all through the night. As a mother, I feel her pains and everyday I cry, asking God, why this little innocent girl? I appeal to Nigerians to come to our aid so my daughter can be happy like her mates.”
