SCORENigeria has it on good authority that Finidi George is one of seven coaches shortlisted for the vacant Super Eagles head coach position.

Enyimba coach Finidi was the interim coach for the country’s team for two friendlies against Ghana and Mali in Morocco this month.

His team beat Ghana 2-1, before they lost 2-0 to Mali.

It is a performance that has divided opinion with several state FA chairmen urging the NFF to go beyond him to appoint a more experienced coach for the Super Eagles.

What could also work against Finidi is that he does not have a UEFA Pro license or the equivalent of a CAF A license at a time that CAF are fully focused that only qualified coaches work the sidelines.

SCORENigeria further gathered that the shortlist may include Emmanuel Amuneke, Salisu Yusuf was not considered as the list is dominated by foreign coaches with the NFF clear in their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

One of the most influential members of the NFF technical committee, who is also a top politician, has advocated for another foreign coach to succeed Jose Peseiro at the helm of the Super Eagles.

As first reported by SCORENigeria, the next Super Eagles coach could earn as much as $80,000 a month, which will make him the highest paid coach of the national team.
