The second term bid of Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano received a boost yesterday when a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Mr. Harris Chuma, withdrew from the race, to support him.
Also, no fewer than 200,000 members of the APC joined the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State.
Chuma, who announced his withdrawal from the race at a press conference in Awka, the Anambra State capital, disclosed that he discovered that the incumbent Governor, Obiano of APGA was doing well and had a better plan for the development of the state.
Consequently, he told newsmen that he had given instructions to his 420 coordinators in the 21 local governments in the state to collapse their structure into that of Obiano and also join APGA.
According to him, continuing in the race after discovering that Obiano was better in all ramifications than he and other contenders, would amount to “self deceit and disservice” to the people of the state.
“Today, Governor Obiano stands out as the most celebrated governor in Nigeria, largely due to his great accomplishments in security and other related matters.
“He has been declared the best governor Anambra has ever produced by highly revered traditional institutions and religious bodies in the state. He has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is a tireless working governor.”
Chuma berated those he called “agents of darkness in priestly robes” and urged the people of the state to shun them as according to him, their agenda was to take the state back, should they be allowed to grab the seat in the state.
The former APC aspirant said he had teamed up with some professionals to strengthen Obiano’s media team under the aegis of Independent Media Support Organisation for Governor’s Re-election, 2017.
“We are ever ready to engage them in media war and expose their dubious tendencies.
“They have succeeded in deepening hate politics and campaign of calumny in the state. We have come to put an end to their deceitful ways. We have embraced the truth, and we will preach the gospel truth to all the nooks and crannies of Anambra and beyond.
“Do not parley with selfish cabals who negotiate for political settlement and unfettered access to government funds. They don’t mean well for the state. Support the incorrigible Governor Obiano to continue the good work he is doing.”he said.
