Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has called on all teachers in the state to use their Permanent Voters Card, PVCs, positively for the progress and development of the state by voting for President Mohammadu Buhari on February 16.
The governor said Ekiti State would benefit more in terms of educational development if the state continues to support the activities of the Federal government, adding that since he became the governor, development partners and government agencies were already supporting the activities of the state in the education sector.
Governor Fayemi, made the remarks in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital while interacting with representatives of teachers across primary and secondary schools at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Iyin road.
Fayemi, said he had paid the SUBEB counterpart fund for 2016, 2017 and 2018 to the tune of N3.3 billion which was expected to bring N6.6 billion to the state for the renovation of some schools and for the provision of furniture in public schools.
The governor told the teachers that the state government was committed to the recruitment of teachers in the state, not for political or community gains but the government would recruit the best teachers for the development of the young once for the progress and development of the state.

“When we distributed laptops in the state during our first term, we did it with good intention since the world is now in an internet age.
“In every school, the government will put in place a computer laboratory so that our teachers will know how to teach our young ones to be at par with their counterparts elsewhere and be able to pass the public examination.”
He promises regular and more capacity building for teachers in the state on regular basis for the development for the teacher and the children in the state.
The governor also promised to look into various demands of the teachers which include car/housing loans, electronic teaching in Ekiti schools, grade level 17 for teachers and leave bonus.
He promised to continue to pay their regular salaries and pay the backlog from the last administration within one year of his government and do more for the teachers so that Ekiti could continue to lead in the education sector in Nigeria.
In their goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Deji Ajayi, said teachers are critical stakeholders meant to reduce poverty in the state in the educational sector.
Ajayi, added that the governor in his few months of the administration, had improved the education sector in the state through some of his intervention programmes in the sector.
Earlier, the ANCOPSS chairman, Mr. Abiodun Omotoso, NUT chairman, Comrade Samuel Olugbesan, ASUSS chairman, Mr. Sola Adigun and Bimbo Ogunyemi, AOPSHON chairperson, demanded various needs for the teaching profession including their welfare and infrastructural development for the schools.
