Kaduna State has partnered with Google and Data Science Nigeria to launch a groundbreaking initiative: the first-ever Hausa-language AI learning series. This series aims to empower women in Northern Nigeria by making complex artificial intelligence concepts accessible and culturally relevant.

Traditionally, access to tech education and careers in Northern Nigeria has faced challenges. Socio-cultural factors, limited infrastructure, and language barriers have all played a role. The AI for Beginners Learning Video Series tackles these issues head-on.

Engaging animations and culturally appropriate visuals are used to break down complex digital concepts. This fosters inclusivity and encourages participation in the booming tech sector, specifically among women.

The launch, held at Kaduna’s Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall, celebrated technology, education, and the untapped potential of women in Northern Nigeria. Governor Uba Sani, the event’s Guest of Honor, emphasized the government’s commitment to digital transformation and economic growth.

“AI is not the future, it’s the present,” Governor Sani declared. “Equipping our people, particularly our women, with AI skills will pave the way for a more prosperous and innovative Northern Nigeria. It also lays the foundation for Kaduna to become a thriving tech hub.”

Google’s Director of West Africa echoed this sentiment at the launch. “We believe technology can empower people,” they stated. “Making learning resources available in local languages is key.”

The Director highlighted the series as a significant step in their efforts to promote AI knowledge across Northern Nigeria. They believe this will lead to a broader understanding and application of AI, ultimately driving innovation and creating new jobs.

Dr. Bayo Adekanbi, CEO/Founder of Data Science Nigeria, chimed in, “By making AI education accessible in Hausa, we’re opening doors for innovation, entrepreneurship, and social impact. These women are the future leaders and innovators of Northern Nigeria, and AI is the tool that can amplify their potential.”

Representatives from NITDA and the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy also delivered speeches at the event. They emphasized the national importance of this initiative and the government’s support for fostering a thriving tech ecosystem.

The AI for Beginners Learning Video Series is readily available on various platforms: YouTube via Data Science Nigeria, the NITDA education portal, and downloadable formats.

To ensure maximum accessibility, the series is also distributed on USB drives for sharing and peer-to-peer copying in all primary and secondary schools across Kaduna State. Additionally, public video content copying centers will have the series available.
