Eleven passengers have been killed in a tragic road accident that occurred along Kano Maiduguri Express Road in Kano State 

A statement signed on Saturday by A.A Labaran, Public Education Officer of the Kano Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the tragedy adding that sixteen passengers were injured while one was rescued unhurt from the wreckage..
According to him, the accident took place on 19th April, 2024, at approximately 15:45hrs local time at Gaya Junction of the express way.
He explained that the accident involved two vehicles: a Toyota hummer bus with registration number KTG 190 XB and a Hijet mini p/up with registration number KTG 501 YG.
Labaran revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that the probable cause of the crash was overspeeding, resulting in the loss of control and subsequent fire outbreak.
He said that in response to the tragic event, the injured were swiftly rushed  to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were respectfully laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and emphasized the importance of compliance with road safety rules and regulations .
He warned drivers to refrain from committing traffic offenses such as speed violations and overloading of vehicles with passengers, animals, or goods while urrging them  to  install speed limitinhdevice on their vehicles to avoid crashes resulting for speed limit violations.
“The FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command CC IS Abdullahi remains committed to ensuring the safety of road users and will continue to intensify efforts in enforcing traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.” he concluded.  End
