Contrary to the belief of some readers, like Pastor Albert Luka (070 – 6311 – 8934) and the owner of phone number 08158392520 among others, I am not a polygamist and I have not written the series to promote multiple – marriage. I hate it and would never advise or encourage anyone to engage in it. What is at stake is not my opinion, but the position of Almighty God and Jesus Christ on polygamy in the Bible. And as I pointed out in an earlier article in the series, it is clear in the Scriptures that they are not against it, because the Lord has no law against it, while Jesus and the Apostles did not preach against it.

I decided to write the series for two reasons. The first was the demand in the last two years by those who came across an article or two in the series published in 2008, 2010 or 2013 and wanted me to make available to them the ones they could not lay their hands on. It was also because of readers’ request that I wrote on the issue in 2010 and 2013.

The other reason for the series is to save from God’s punishment the pastors and non – cleric Christians who falsely claim or preach that the Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit, told them that polygamy is sinful and that anyone who engages in it would not make Heaven. Especially those of them who tell polygamous men to send away the wife or wives they married after the first one. And who advise women who are not the first spouse of their husbands to leave them.

I could not help those who requested for the articles they missed in the series published on polygamy in 2008, 2010 and 2013, because the cybercafé where they were typed out had packed up. And I had lost the flash drives where I stored the articles.

My column went online in 2016 or so, three to ten years after the write – ups they wanted had been published. So, the only way to meet their request for the articles I wrote on polygamy in 2008, 2010 and 2013 is to embark on the ongoing series.

I had to do this because one of those who requested for the ones he missed in 2008 was a postgraduate Ph.D. student at the University of Ibadan, writing a dissertation on polygamy. He was so glad seeing my article which he said was very useful to him. Therefore, my current series would be very useful to any postgraduate student in any university in the country or abroad who is working on a thesis on polygamy or may want to do so in the future.

Another reason I had to do the series this year are those who got in touch in 2008, 2010 and 2013 thanking me that my series had given them relief from the sermons of clerics that polygamy is sinful. They said the passages I drew attention to in the Bible had shown them that Almighty God and Jesus Christ are not against multiple – marriage.

And that my references in Matthew 8:11 – 13 and Luke 15: 19 – 31 showing that Abraham who had two wives is in heaven, had made them realize that any polygamous man who worships God sincerely or faithfully can also make paradise contrary to the false sermons pastors in Nigeria and elsewhere preach.

number of readers especially women in polygamous marriage for the same reason phoned
or sent text messages to thank me for doing.

The Adedipes, Falaes, Ade – Ojos & others (23) – 16 lawyer offspring (2)

The 14th of the 16 lawyers in our family Barrister Temitope Adedipe, the grandson of High Chief Akomolafe Adedipe, the 12th Elemo of Akure (1920 – 58), is currently being considered for appointment as a High Court judge in Ondo State. If he makes it, as we fervently wish, he would be the first in our family to sit on the bench.

This would have happened decades ago if the earlier lawyers had been interested in being magistrates or judges. If Tope’s application is approved, it is likely that other attorneys in our clan will also want to be high court justices. This means that before long, the Adedipes may have produced more judges than any other family in Akure.

The two other lawyers we have produced were the late duo of Mr. Ademola Arifalo Adedipe and Mr. Ayodeji Falae, Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism (2011 – 14). Deji who was the son of High Chief Olu Falae, the former Secretary to the Federal Government, passed on in a plane crash in Lagos four years ago when he led an official team to convey the remains of former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu to Akure.

My 74th birthday (6)

Naturally, in polygamous homes full – blooded siblings are closer to themselves than to their half – brothers – and – sisters. But the bond among us is such that on September 4 the children of my father’s four other wives reached out to me before any of my mother’s offspring did so that day. Although from different mothers, we felicitate with one another during our birthday milestones. This is because in the last week of a month one of us, Engineer Adeleke Adedipe (61), sends out text messages to all our father’s children on those who will be celebrating their birthday in the coming month.

He has been doing so for about ten years now. He also does so whenever anyone among us has any event or ceremony coming up. Such display of brotherhood and sisterhood that we have, I recommend to people in polygamous families.

Any polygamous man should marry only the number of wives he has money to take care of adequately. And he should know that how a polygamous family fares depends on how the husband and father in the house is able to make his wives and children live comfortably and happily. Ours is relatively an ideal polygamous home because of how our wealthy dad who had eight wives managed the family.

I thank all those who rejoiced with me when I celebrated my birthday on September 4. The greetings continued until last week Saturday. I wish everyone, family members, friends, former colleagues and especially the readers of this column I have never met, God’s blessings. I pray for long life, good health and happiness for everyone. And that each year would be better than the preceding one for all.
