The Benue State Police Command has arrests 16 suspects in connection with the murder of a young man, Muhammadu Hudu, and the attack on one Oryima Benjamin recently.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, Hudu was stabbed to death at Udei Street, North Bank on August 3, 2017, while Oryima was attacked a few days later along Gboko Road both in Makurdi.
He said: “Special Anti-Robbery Squad personnel, in separate operations based on intelligence, raided various criminal hideouts and arrested 16 persons in Terwase at North Bank and Terwase Agbadu areas of the metropolis.”
Parading the suspects, Makama said a locally-made gun and two single-barrel guns were recovered from the suspects, adding that they would soon be charged to court after investigation on the matter was complete.
Also paraded were two suspected armed robbers, Emmanuel, 22, and Terseer, 40, who specialised in snatching vehicles at gunpoint.
Makama disclosed that the two suspects were arrested by policemen on stop-and-search duty in Gboko town in possession of a red Toyota Corolla, with registration number GWA 462 FB, which was earlier stolen from its owner in Abuja.
However, the suspects alleged that a man in Abuja had contracted them to deliver the car to his family in Gboko.
