The Deputy Chair, Public Image, Rotary International District 9110 and  Member Of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations,as well as An Accredited Practitioner/Member Of The Chartered Institute Of Public Relations, United Kingdom, Ezenwa Opara has enjoined Public Relations Professionals to  strategize in order to elevate Nigeria’s image. The only way towards achieving this stride is through empowerment.

Opara disclosed this as public relations professionals converged in Abeokuta, Ogun State,  for the 61st Annual General Meeting and 2024 edition of Nigeria Public Relations Week which  serve as timely platforms to reaffirm it’s commitment and chart a course towards a better future for PR professionals

“Public relations professionals play a crucial role in shaping the image of a country on the global stage. In the case of Nigeria, this is particularly important as the country often faces negative stereotypes and misconceptions in the international community. Empowering PR professionals in Nigeria is essential in order to showcase the country in a positive light and attract investment, tourism, and partnerships.

He said stakeholders play a central role in shaping Nigeria’s narrative and enhancing its image on the world stage.The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, it’s imperative to reflect on the pivotal role of Public Relations (PR) professionals in shaping Nigeria’s image and narrative both domestically and internationally.

“The journey of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) since its conception in 1963 by the likes of  Dr. Sam Epelle, Alex Nwokedi, Aduke Alakija, Theo Awobogu, Kunle Ojora, Wilton High and Dan Agbakova. Underscores the recognition of the need for a structured approach to information management. The attainment of chartered status in 1990 further solidified the importance of PR in the Nigerian context. However, despite these strides, there remains a pressing need to empower PR professionals to take the lead in information gathering and dissemination.
