16

British monarch and Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II, is to be conferred with an award on Friday, February 28, by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to mark Nigeria’s centenary.

On the same day too, Sir Fredrick Lugard, who effected the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates of the British Crown to form a new colonial territory and his consort, Dame Flora Louise Shaw, who named the territory ‘Nigeria’ would both receive posthumous awards.

At the glittering ceremony, President Jonathan would similarly present awards in 13 other categories to 97 distinguished personalities, either alive or dead, who eminently symbolize the tapestry of Nigeria’s first centenary.

In a statement, the Presidential Committee on Nigeria’s Centenary Celebrations said the award ceremony scheduled to hold at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, would kick off at 7.00pm.  A full list of the award recipients is reproduced below.

  1. Column “M” Outstanding Promoters of Unity, Patriotism and National development is utter rubbish. The same military men that destroyed the country. Call them what they are, Outstanding Destroyers of National unity and Destabilizers of Patriotism and National Development! This award should go to the Nigerian masses who in-spite of being misruled, deprived, denied and starved kept the country afloat for years without a revolution.

  2. There are some observations that needed urgent attention and corrections like the one given to Obafemi Awolowo as GCFR. Awolowo is not in the class of GCFR he can only be address as a “Yoruba sage” .
Secondly, any accolade in the Nigeria state without mentioning Dr Alex Ekwueme in Nigeria nation is a ruse. This man was Nigeria’s VP during second republic not only that he singlehandedly designed the nation’s administrative architectural masterpiece we all known today as Nigeria capital city called Abuja with his Ekwueme Associates Nig Ltd being the second most beautiful city in Africa after Pretoria .
Thirdly , I am of the opinion that all past Military Heads of states in the country deserves no commendation because they brought Nigeria to our present woes before committee of nations.
Fourthly , MKO Abiola , deserves no respect in this arrangement reason being that this man worked in-conjunction with past Africa Military leaders to truncate democracy in Africa particularly in Nigeria where he had a hand in almost all the change of government in Nigeria with the Military including neighbouring West African state of former Upper-Volta now Burkina Faso that culminated the death of Thomas Sankara by his bosom friend Blaise Campore that was nurtured in his mothers kitchen . He also participated fully in incessant takeover in Nigere . He deserves no commendation at all because he brought a lot of calamity into Nigeria nation with lots of fraudulent contracts when he changed #80m naira telephony contract award into #800m naira to deceive the then federal government because the man that awarded him such contract died by coup de dat . He finally pick up late Murtala’s wife within space of months while shuttling from Europe to America with her .
And finally , the nation should stop celebrating criminality instead of excellence citing MKO’s case is disheartening to me in particular . I Owerri has spoken. The Agu na eche mba 1 of Igboland . And whosoever that found my submission worrisome can challenge me today because I am fully charge to an extent that such person will live to regret his or her life for opting to toil along such grave mistake.

  3. If there is any name above that does not deserve or merit the award above, it is Zik. A coward and a traitor.
One name missing above is Prince Nico Mbarga – of the sweet mother anthem.

  5. One devilish name that disrupted the whole setting was that of MKO Abiola , the greedy useless man that had 140 children with forty wives including 50 concubines and 120 street urchins he finally used to bless South Western region which he evenly shared within bus terminus before he gave up to ghost out of frustration in effort to rule Nigeria.
Then Prince Nico Mbaga can be decorated in his own native country Cameroun and not in Nigeria though his mother is a Nigerian from Igboland .

  6. fuck you Jonathan ! you see why I insist that jonathan and his deficient and useless cabinet must go ? how on earth will they contemplate and reserve an award for this so called queen, lugard for putting this contraption that has never worked and will never work called Nigeria together.

  7. @Owerri, you are one person i would ask boys to stone to death any day you are found on the street of Lagos or any part of Yoruba land because your hatred towards Yoruba people is unparalleled in recent time.
Zik whose political career was brought to limelight by his Yoruba supporters and at the same time he betrayed Ojukwu and Igbo in their quest to fight for justice through Biafran war is highly regarded by you as an hero while Chief Obafemi Awolowo whose progressive policies as Premier of defunct Western Region that impacted positively on lives of Yoruba, Igbo people and other Nigerians living in Southwest as at that time did not merit an award like Sir Ahmadu Bello.
So also, you did not see sense in choosing MKO Abiola for an award because he was not an Igbo man but prosperity would never forget MKO Abiola as symbol of modern democracy in Nigeria.
Owerri, you are hereby sentenced to death any where you are found in Yoruba land.

  8. Dele , I have warned you several times to stop addressing me as a Yoruba hater. They only problem you can use to adjudge me differently now is that all the pioneers of present day leadership in Yorubaland are non of my likens I must be frank with you because they play tribal politics. You can see that those with nationwide view in their approach to governance in Nigeria are my idols true or false?
Again , I did not say Obafemi Awolowo should not be accorded due respect but the GCFR given to him came as a result of what instead of a sage we all are meant to know? But why can’t you enlighten me if you have far reaching knowledge as compared to my own understanding? Why passing fatwa against me knowing fully well that for over 13 good years your foot have not touched African soil talks of stoning your boss from far impoverish London in accordance with your antagonistic Islamic religion that has no value to human life except wanton destruction of lives and property?
    Dele , you again today?
MKO Abiola , you erroneously mentioned above may be you have no good link to history was one of the architects of Nigeria problems when he used his ill gotten wealth to truncate elected regimes in Nigeria and in diaspora . How can history be kind with him ? Was it because he smartly hidden himself in the democratic canopy that eventually consumed him at the long run?
Which other posterity are you talking about that have systematically balanced his old time tricks he meted out to born democrats? Stop making noise Mr Man the said posterity you had in mind have already engulfed him there is no other one chasing him either in favour or against . Have I made myself clear to you?

  9. I go with d submission of Hon.Owerri spacifically on two areas: his submission of confering of honourary award to Awolowo bt to limit it to his yoroba people cus uptill nw they worship him as their god & MKO he is what Owerri described him to be. Acommon criminal who introduced stealing & contract inflicting in great propotion in Nigeria.

  10. It is just a pity that internet cannot separate sanity and insanity brain hence people like owerri or gbewiri should be ignored.I don’t know your age but go and ask Sheu shagari who conferred the award GCFR on Chief Obafemi Awolowo.please whosoever compile this names has placed OBJ wrongly or better still the name suppose to have be in two categories.1.on democracy transition, because he handed over to Sheu Shagari in 1979 there cannot be sheu shagari in that category without obasanjo being there, just like the name Abdusalam was place there because he handed over to obj. the category where he is now should be the 2nd place his name should have appeared, He is the hero of the civil war, take it or leave it the rebel surrendered to him. There are things hatred cannot change, history maker, either you like them or not will always have their place in history if your account must be faultless.

    • You will also admonished Duka Suka Dimka for paving such way to Obj in the first place as you are laying all the handover to a whole elected civilian president . All Military hangovers to me are useless and should not be accorded any recognition at all. Obj must go with one medal as Nigeria civilian president that to me is more honourable than the military fashioned accolade.

  12. Odogwu_Aganaga on

history will record that the celebration of the ill-fated amalgamation is a testament to the asininity of naijaria/naijarians despite their claim to the contrary. there is this cartoon/caricature of a man and woman celebrating the anniversary of a forced-marriage that has even broken down. and by the way, naijaria/naijarians seem to have forgotten that the one hundred years of amalgamation are experimental–at least that’s what the crafters called it, and now naijaria/naijarians are celebrating it as a fait accompli; and that is wisdom for naijaria/naijarians. some names in the honor list show very clearly that the whole thing is another typically characteristic naijarian sense of humour. e.g., the danjumas for killing general ironsi, the gowons for reversing themselves on “there is no basis for unity . . . .” and, for goodness sake, what are the ozokwors doing in the list??? who and what are they? don’t you see that naijarians have lost their reason. one would have expected jonathan, as a university don, to have made a difference. but you see, the saying cannot be more correct + “a naijarian is a naijarian”; shikina. shame on naijaria; shame to the shameless.

  13. Dele Udele Odugwamgwa when did you become an Ayatollah to issue a Fatwa on Honnorable Quad. Chief Owerri. As Christians, we do not issue a Fatwas, however we decree a back to sender that those killers will turn against you and not our Honorable Owerri. To @Little Akins, your Awo does not deserve any honor since he introduced tribalism in Nigeria. The man was a certified coward and the father of tribalism.
