Federal Government has set up a presidential initiative that would begin the process of revamping some moribund industries in the Niger Delta region.

The industries went moribund, perhaps, as a result of unfavourable government economic policies, high cost of operation or bad management of the industries.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, who visited some of the moribund industries in Akure, Ondo State, said government engaged competent hands to handle the exercise.

He told Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu that the team was made up of competent and experienced hands who are focused and committed to the task of revamping agricultural and manufacturing industries in all states in the region.

He was, however, impressed with the response of the concerned states with the exception of three other states that had displayed little or less commitment to the concept of the initiative.

The governor expressed the readiness of the state to support the initiative, which he said would revive the economy of the Niger Delta states, creating jobs and facilitating peaceful co-existence.

He appealed to the Federal Government to expand the scope of the intervention to cover several areas of mineral resources abundant in the state.
