History was made yesterday at the 5th edition of the Okpekpe 10 kilometre race as Ethiopian male athletes won the first, second and third positions, even as they won the first price in the female category.
Leul Gabreselasie breast the finishing line in a time of 29.28 to cart home the cash price of $15,000, Jima Bekele returned in a time of 29.34 to get the $10,000 cash price while Dawit Sekado came third in a time of 32.22 to smile home with the $7,000 cash price.
The Ethiopians proved their mettle in the female category as the $15,000 for the first position was won by Almera Gebuhagos    in a time of 33.59, Veronica Maina of Kenya returned in a time of 34.19 to go home with $10,000, While Alice Timbili got the $7,000 price by running a time of 34.39.
In the Nigerian elite categories, Jigadi Monday came first in a time of 31.59, Emma Eyang was second in 32.18 while Ismaila Sagjo was third in a time of 32.22.
In the female category, Deborah Pam came first with a time of 38.15, Elizabeth Nuhu was second in 38.41, while Akusho coasted home with a time of 38.55.
The winners in the elite cadre smiled home with N250, 000 for the first place, N100, 000 for second, N80, 000 for the third placed finisher, while the fourth placed got N70, 000.
