From Chidi Nnadi, Enugu

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East has denied a report in a national daily that it has “denounced former Senate president, Ken Nnamani, as the national leader of the party in the zone.”

The party’s National Vice Chairman, South East, Emma Eneukwu, who made the denial yesterday in a statement issued in Enugu, said the distorted report came after their executive committee meeting last Friday during which the issue of the leadership of the party in the zone was discussed.

“We want to state that actually that statement did not reflect the true position of what transpired in the meeting.

“The fact is that while the issue of the leader of the South East was being discussed in the zonal meeting held on Friday,   February 17, 2017 at the Nike Lake Resort Enugu, the former Senate president, Ken Nnamani, personally stood up and declined his interest in the position, thereby nipped the issue in the bud.”

According to him, Nnamani had “maintained that what should concern the zone now should be how to strategise to win the fast approaching Anambra 2017 governorship election.”

Eneukwu also said the former Senate president reiterated his willingness to serve in any capacity in the party to enhance the party’s fortunes in elections.

“The APC South East is particularly happy with the entry of the former Senate president, Nnamani into the party and will never address him as was carried by the daily.

“We commend his wisdom in the meeting as we hold him in high esteem and will always accord him due respect and regard.

“APC is one united party in the South East and our doors are open to receive Igbo into the party,” he said.
