Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to be “disciplined, dedicated and determined in order to excel in the service year.”

 

He gave the charge when he presided over the closing ceremony of 2024 Batch A Stream II orientation course for Corps members deployed to the State at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam in Tai Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Hamilton Amadi, Governor Fubara further charged the Corps members to be focused in living up to ideals of the NYSC and in doing so, play active and pivotal roles to uplift the lives of the people of the State.

He also enjoined them to integrate with the people of the State by learning their languages as well as respect their culture and traditions.

Earlier, the Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Mr. George Mfongang, had extolled the Corps members for their exceptional discipline, patriotism, commitment and passion for nation-building.

He called on them to be ready to be agents of positive change in their host communities and ensure that they promote peace, equity and social justice at all times.

Speaking further, Mr. Mfongang called on them to live above board and be role models in their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA), while they should also take the post camp skills acquisition training very seriously.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his support to the scheme especially, in paying state allowance to all Corps members.

Mr. Mfongang thanked the Nonwa- Gbam communities for their support in ensuring a peaceful environment for the smooth and seamless conduct of the orientation exercise.

The event was attended by dignitaries including the Paramount Ruler of Nonwa Tai, His Royal Highness, Mene Nyiedam Emmanuel.
