THE Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday said the traditional institution was in full support of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.
But he counseled the President to be just in all his dealings, adding that no nation can endure injustice without descending into a state of anarchy.
The monarch spoke in Sokoto at a mini durbar organised to end activities marking his 10th anniversary on the throne as the Sultan of Sokoto.
Abubakar urged President Buhari not to relent in providing sustainable and good governance to the country, saying “we believe you have what it takes to take this country to the next level.”
He added: “We want to thank you for supporting us in the past 10 years. If we have been doing wrong things in the last 10 years, I’m sure nobody would have been here to celebrate with us today.
“We want to thank you for your commitment and faith in what we have been doing. We want to assure you that we will do much more because we have no other country than Nigeria. Whatever we can do as traditional institution to ensure the unity of this country, we will do without having second thought.
“Mr. President, you can have your rest of mind. We will support you totally. When things are going wrong, we will stand up to be counted, to proffer solution. When things go right, we will be at the background thanking Almighty Allah for you.”
Sultan Abubakar, however, advised political leaders in the country to ensure justice, noting that peace cannot reign where there is injustice.
He said: “We must ask ourselves why there are agitations everywhere in this country.  Maybe it’s because mis-governance to some extent. May be poverty, extremism and so on. No nation can endure injustice.
“Our leaders should fear God and give justice to all. There can never be peace without justice and where there is injustice, there must be anarchy and no nation can survive state of anarchy,” he said.
Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in his remarks, lauded Buhari’s fight against corruption and insurgency in the country.
He said the war against insurgents was almost over, noting that other security challenges like militancy, cattle rustling and kidnapping would soon be a thing of the past in the country.
“We are sure that you are doing your best to end them. We will support you in your quest to restore full security in our country. There cannot be any development without security,” the governor noted.
