Reigning African Shot Put champion and Commonwealth Games silver medalist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has joined the growing list of Nigerian elite athletes heading to the World Athletics Championships in Budapest later this year.

Enekwechi landed a massive Seasons Best (SB) of 21.69m at the LA Grand Prix, surpassing the World Championship qualifying standard of 21.50m.

His ticket makes him the third Nigerian athlete behind Udodi Onwuzuruike and 400m hurdles national record holder, Nathaniel Ezekiel to qualify for the championship billed for Budapest, Hungry from August19-27 2023.

Udodi Onwuzuruike remains the only Nigerian athlete to secure qualification marks for two events (100m and 200m) at the upcoming Budapest championship.

Others are Ese Brume is the African Record (AR) holder in the women’s long jump, Ruth Usoro, Grace Nwokocha, Rosemary Chukwuma and Favour Ofili.

Chioma Onyekwere, the women’s 4×100 relay team as well as the 4x400m mixed relay team will also don Nigeria’s colors in Budapest come August.
