…Vow to Continue Protesting Until Justice is Served

From Abel Leonard, Lafia

In a show of discontent, thousands of women in Nasarawa state dressed in black took to the streets to protest the recent declaration of Governor Abdullahi Sule as the winner of the March 18 governorship election.

The protesters marched to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lafia on Tuesday demanding that the commission reverse its earlier pronouncement and return their mandate.

The women alleged that the election results were manipulated by INEC in favor of the incumbent governor, with a margin of 62 thousand votes separating him from his closest rival, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Her, the women will keep protesting demanding an audience with the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC. They have expressed their frustration at being ignored and dismissed, and are determined to make their voices heard.

“Leadership comes from God, and whoever’s time has come should be given to him,” said leader of the protesters. “We, the women of Nasarawa State, whether Christian or Muslim, will not rest until justice is prevailed.”

She further stated that they will not stop coming to the REC’s office until he agrees to meet with them. They have pledged to return every day, no matter the weather or the time, until their demands are met.
