Rivalry is as old as mankind. Human history is replete with rivalry that had led even to the demise of the other party. A case in point was that of Cain and Abel in the Bible. And here in Nigeria, rivalry or rather competition, is the oil that lubricates the music industry.
For long, the rivalry or competition between Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid or Starboy and David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido has been the topic of fierce debate, with fans arguing over who is more talented among the pair.
In the last two years, Wizkid was adjudged to have dusted Davido. Thanks to his collabo with American rap star, Drake, which catapulted him unto the global stage and won him the award for Best African Act, a category in which Davido was also nominated but lost. But by mid 2018, Davido launched a string of singles including Assurance (for his girlfriend, Chioma) that transformed his fortunes and shot him to new heights.

Despite getting a Nike endorsement and a date with supermodel, Naomi Campbell, Wizkid, who is trailing Davido with 6.2 million followers on Instagram, still was no match for the self-acclaimed Omo Baba Olowo (OBO). At some point, Wizkid had copied a thing or two from Davido. He started sharing pictures of himself and his kids on social media, but it all backfired, as one of his baby mamas came out to accuse him of being a social media dad and for failing to pay his children’s school fees.
Last week, however, all that seemed to have changed, as Wizkid launched his latest video, Fever (Stew) to wide acclaim. Featuring Tiwa Savage as a vixen, Fever instantly set the Internet on fire, breaking new records in the Nigerian music industry as the first video to garner over a million views in 24 hours.
Fever sent tongues wagging and reinforced the rumours that Tiwa Savage and Wizkid are indeed having an affair. The rumours began after the First Lady of Mavin Records featured Wizkid on her hit single, Ma Lo, which won rave reviews. While it served as one of the songs that brought Tiwa Savage back to reckoning after her hiatus from the industry due to childbirth, it was also the song that made Tiwa and Wizkid an item.
At the time, her estranged husband, Tee Billz had declared that Wizkid was his boy and so there was no way he could date his wife.

Was he wrong?
Indeed, Fever landed with a bang, setting the Internet agog. The video opens with Wizkid on a water bike and the camera pans into him lying bare chested on a bed covered with snow white sheets, with an abstract painting of a couple making out in the background, as skimpily dressed Tiwa seduces him.
What really sets the video apart is Tiwa romancing Wizkid or vice versa. There is a lot of touching, kissing, pecking and fondling. In fact, the pair stop short of actually doing the real thing in the full glare of television viewers. In the track, Wizkid describes Tiwa as the woman he desires, declaring ‘Starboy dey for you… Anywhere you go, I’ll be your handbag’.
However, Tee Billz had tweeted: “Wizkid is my kid bro. He can’t do anything with Tiwa. Don Jazzy will never allow that.”

Fans react
As soon as the video went viral, there was a scramble by fans to comment on social media. Manuche6 tweeted: “Trust me, this video gonna hurt Teebillz more than Wizkid’s baby mamas. They should keep that guy on suicide watch.”
Another fan commented: “Ever since they did Ma Lo, there was a strong chemistry between them but what they share in Fever is raw animal magnetism and tongues can’t stop wagging.”
In her tweet, Mortuns 12 said: “Most Nigerians are just too fake and hypocrites. When Harry married a divorcee (Meghan) they were all full of joy and did not remember the age difference. Now that it is divorced Tiwa, they are all busy running their dirty mouths and funny enough, some of them do worse things behind closed doors. May God help us”.
On his part, Michael Joseph2 tweeted: “Wizkid is a business man. He (simply) took advantage of the rumours (milling) around him and Tiwa. He is an intelligent artiste.”
But then, in the entire hullabaloo, Tiwa Savage had kept sealed lips. All entreaties to make her confirm or deny an affair with Wizkid have proved abortive.
