No fewer than 19 persons have been injured and 300 units of tents destroyed by windstorm at a camp for displaced victims of Boko Haram insurgency in a Borno border town.

The windstorm which started at about 3:30pm, on Wednesday, destroyed the IDPs camp at Gamboru/Ngala, a commercial town at the edge of Nigeria-Cameroon border.

Police Commissioner, Borno State, Damian Chukwu confirmed the incident. He said the storm destroyed other valuables of the IDPs.

“Nineteen IDPs sustained injuries at the camp and are being treated at the camp clinic,” he disclosed.

Gamboru/Ngala is about 138 kilometres to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Twice captured by Boko Haram between 2014 and 2016, the insurgents were dislodged by Chadian soldiers and regional forces; Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
