•Process of getting transcripts online made easy

The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State says it has cleared outstanding certificates of students who graduated from the 40-year-old institution to contrary to insinuation in some quarters.   

The university management has also cancelled the issuance of notification of results to students in lieu of their certificates to check abuses associated it. 

Registrar of OOU, Femi Ogunwomoju told Daily Sun that there are no backlogs of certificates except isolated cases of students with errors in names linked to when the university used manual computer students’ results.

Ogunwomoju said as promised by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Agboola during the pre-convocation that certificates of recent graduates for 2023 and 2024 was ready and many graduates have collected theirs.

“All graduates going for their NYSC went with their certificates. For 2022/2023 set, we processed and signed 6,000 undergraduate and 1,000 postgraduate certificates. And for 2023/2024, about 5,000 undergraduate and over 500 postgraduate certificates were signed for distributed to graduates.

“Since 2012, we had no issue backlog of certificates because OOU computerized its operations. We have streamlined the process of certificates preparation. Currently, we don’t have backlog of certificates. With the computerization of our operations, it is easy to process and collect certificates.

“We have isolated cases, especially part-time and some full time students. Many of the students who fall into these categories finished long a go with errors in spelling of names or incomplete results.

“There are some people who assumed they have graduated from OOU but still have outstanding results or wrote initiates instead of their full names. While some students only come when they are desperate for their certificate. Getting their results (manual) and full names after years of graduation delay the process of issuing the certificate.

“There are also some who assumed they have graduated and when they come we investigated. These categories of students have issues such outstanding results or errors in names. We have certificates in our custody for five, 10, 15 and even 20 years with us. If there are cases of students whose certificates are not ready, are those before 2012.

“For those without issues, the university can produce certificate in a day or two. We still have certificates of some of our first set of 1986. It takes time to find results of students who graduated years back because we do it manually and we are in the process of converting the outstanding manual results into computerized form.’’      

On transcripts, the registrar faulted the claim that the process is cumbersome and stressed that the university management has improved in the issuance of transcripts.

“Students who graduated from 2010, 2011, 2012 and upward, it is easy to get their transcripts. For those from 2000 to 2010, we have retrieved the manual results and added it to our system.

“From 2012 to 2024, students can have transcripts online without coming to the university. The request for transcripts rose three times more. In a week, we get about 250 transcripts request. The problems are that some people pay the wrong amount, don’t finish the process.

‘We are making serious efforts to address some of these problems. The people that complain most are the part-time students, those who graduated from our numerous canters scattered across some states. What we are doing now is get their score sheets and compute their results. We have produced over 280,000 graduates since 1986.

“We have large volume of request for transcripts from part-time students. These are people who claimed to have graduated from OOU and we investigate and found out they are not our students. The genuine graduates don’t have issues. A lot of people claimed they graduated but are were never our student.” 

Ogunwomoju disclosed that the current management has done a lot to make certificates available as at when due. We have computerized the process of issuing certificate. Issuance of transcripts have been streamlined by this administration. Through online process, they can get their student copy and later the original copy.
