From Ahmed Abubakar, Dutse

Thirty-five-year-old Abang, an alleged kidnapper that has been on the run since June 2017 and was declared wanted by the Akwa-Ibom State Police Command, has been arrested in Jigawa State.
The alleged kidnapper, who was said to have been picked by the police while trying to transact business in one of the banks in Hadejia Local Government Area of the state, has been hiding in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdul Jinjiri, who paraded the suspect to the press yesterday, said the suspect has been on the run since June 2017, when he allegedly escaped from police custody in Akwa Ibom and has since been taking refuge in his brother’s apartment in Nguru, which is about 70 kilometres from Hadejia town.
The suspect told our reporter that he was wrongly accused by his people of indulging in kidnapping, which prompted the police in Akwa Ibom to arrest and detain him for three months.
According to Abang, “they detained me for three months after they shot me on my leg but later released me for lack of evidence to prosecute me. After that, I heard that I ran away from police cell. I’ve since been staying with my elder brother, who is a soldier, in Nguru. I was arrested when I was trying to withdraw some money that I asked my wife to send to me.”
The PPRO said the Jigawa State Police Command has concluded arrangements to hand him over to the Akwa Ibom State police command for prosecution.
