Wife of the Kebbi state Governor, Hajia Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris has been named as the Climate Action Ambassador for Kebbi State by the Michigan State University and USAID Through the Feed The Future Nigeria Agriculture Policy Activity a project funded by the United States Agency for International development.

 

Professor Oyinkan Taise of Michigan State University from the United State, who lead a delegation on a courtesy visit to the wife of the Kebbi State Governor in Birnin, said their focus was on promoting Agriculture, Building Capacity and Strengthen the dialogue.

He also said they have been supporting the Kebbi State government in developing agriculture Policy since 2015 And they are trying to round,- up with women in the state particularly in the area of agriculture.

According to him, “the goal is to work with the wife of the Kebbi state governor as the mother of the state to ensure that issues of Agriculture recognize climate change impacts and not only on Agriculture but also includes health, education,and women empowerment . Through this , Kebbi state can be position as a state that take climate change issues seriously”.

He equally suggested that for her ambassadorial tenure to be very successful, wife of the Kebbi state Governor are expected to appoint all the wives of the 21 local government Chairmen as her Climate Change Amazon who will work with her to ensure that climate change doesn’t just work in Birnin Kebbi, but also work across all the 21 local government areas of the state.

 

In her remarks the wife of the Kebbi state governor Hajia Zainab Nasir appreciated the ambassadorial position given to her.

She also thanked Michigan State University for collaborating with Kebbi State government in implementing these policies and assured them that she will do her best for women and youth in the state in ensuring the state’s agricultural output is improved on and sustainable.
