The Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has concluded plans to host an international conference to discuss the practice of designing products and processes that drive material and energy efficiencies to minimize their environmental impact.

The international conference, tagged “3rd Sustainable Engineering and Industrial Technology Conference (SEITC), would hold between 22nd -25th August, 2023, at the Faculty of Engineering, UNN.

Briefing newsmen in Nsukka on Wednesday, Prof. Emenike Ejiogu, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, UNN said that the conference would provide opportunities for industry and academia participants to jointly examine, explore and critically engage in issues of sustainability in the areas of sustainable Engineering and Industry Technology.

Ejiogu said that there would be students (individual, group project), staff (research groups), and industries/entrepreneur exhibition competitions on August 23, 2023.

He noted that the exhibition would help to showcase notable student and staff research outputs in order to attract collaboration from within and outside the university.

Adding that the industry and entrepreneur exhibition competition would help to advertise organisation’s products and services to the university community and conference participants which he said would help to facilitate town-gown collaboration.

According to the Dean, Hossein Rouhani, an Associate Professor of Neuromuscular Control and Biomechanics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alberta, Canada would deliver the Keynote Speech.

The keynote speaker would discuss the topic, ‘Techno-economic Assessment of Maritime Hydrogen Transport.’

“Other international scholars who would make presentations during the conference include; Prof. Paul Eke, the Executive Director of Peprime Limited and a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom, Prof. Sebastian Timmerberg, a professor of Environmental Engineering; and a Director at Steinbeis Institute for Materials Applications and 3D Printing Solutions, Karlsruhe, among others.

“The conference would provide opportunities to industry and academia participants to jointly examine, explore, and critically engage in issues of sustainability in the areas of sustainable Engineering and Industry Technology, as well as proffer solutions to our environmental challenges,” he said.

He called on prospective authors to submit seven-page electronic papers on Embedded Power Generation; Soil, Water, and Environmental Management; Climate Change; Energy and Environment; Food Processing, and Biotechnology, among others.

He further explained that the deadline for seven-page (maximum) technical papers is on July 31st, while that of abstracts for exhibition projects is on August 15.
