The University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Thursday announced the death of its former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics & Research), Emeritus Professor Olusoga Adekunle Sofola, on Monday, June 10, 2024.

A statement from the Communication Unit of UNILAG said Sofola was born in Lagos on January 24th, 1947 and joined the services of the university as Lecturer II in the Department of Physiology on November 19th, 1973.

The university said Sofola rose through the ranks and was appointed a Professor on October 1st, 1983. He served as Provost of the College of Medicine from 1993 to1996, and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics & Research from 2003 to 2007.

The statement added that he stared his career, which spanned several decades and was dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and advancement of Physiology. His groundbreaking research and scholarly contributions have had a profound impact on the understanding of human Physiology and improved the lives of countless individuals.

The statement listed Sofola’s numerous achievements and awards as a testament to his hard work, dedication, and passion for his craft, adding ”his contributions to the scientific community have been recognized and celebrated nationally and internationally.

On behalf of the entire University of Lagos community, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, on behalf of the entire university community commiserate with the Sofola family and prayed for the repose of his soul.
