The 18th November, 2023 was indeed a fun-filled, interesting and lovely day for the community of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara state; reason being that the University hosted its maiden edition of the Skilled Students Award Night at the International Conference Center (ICC). 

 

 

The very first edition of this event was taken in her sister-school, Covenant University, Otta, Ogun state. The event is one which work towards appreciating students who are doing very well with various skills and talents that they have, so as to encourage them. Its theme is; Empowering Dreams, Honoring Skills.

 

The event kick started off with the red carpet show at exactly 3pm in the late afternoon, and a number of students turned in beautifully and handsomely dressed. The event was officially opened at exactly 4pm in the evening.

 

The Skilled Students Award had in it a lot of award categories with several wonderful and skilled persons nominated for various awards, but as the saying goes; ‘let the best man win’, the best men really won.

The event was hosted by Akioya Iyobosa Esther, Aderonmu Enifejesukiinu and Tolu Afilaka, and they took us through this occasion wonderfully. Also, the occasion was a success thanks to the various sponsors; Trace Tv, Xpose agency, soundclaz ads agency, Vorem, Del- York creative academy (DCA), insidelmu, Landmark alumni, The Landmarkians and Monster drink.

The first set of awards were those awarded in the Staff Category Awards: Staff of the year CAS was awarded to Mrs. Faith Igbekele, Staff of the year COE was awarded to Prof John Ojediran, Staff of the year CBS was awarded to Dr. Ben-Caleb, Staff of the year CPAS was awarded to Dr. Emmanuel Igbekele, and the Social Impact Staff of the year was awarded to Mr. Kolapo Emmanuel.

Congratulations, to all the winners of the Skilled Students Award: Dancer of the year was awarded to Emmanuel Omenogor, Tech Savy of the year was awarded to Inafa Emmanuella, Comedian of the year was awarded to Lakpa the Great, Photographer of the year was awarded to Jones MofiyinfOluwa, Brand of the year was awarded to Vtech, Actor of the year was awarded to Bello Tomike, Athlete of the year was awarded to Chioma Nnajiofor, Artist (Fine artist) of the year was awarded to Aderonmu Enifejesukiinu, Influencer of the year was awarded to Afolabi Ayodele, Artist (Musician) of the year was awarded to Umoh Isaac (Zikkyberry), Entrepreneur of the year was awarded to Akinrinola Oluwatofunmi (ICON Closet), Graphics designer of the year was awarded to Modupe Emmanuel, Videographer of the year was awarded to Balogun Emmanuel (Embot), Agripreneur of the year was awarded to Oyewole Oluwalonimi, Fashion designer of the year was awarded to Anifowose Ololade (lolaneedles), Content creator of the year was awarded to Tolulope Fajimi, Model of the year was awarded to Tosiubi Marvelous and the award of the night, Skilled Students Award of the year (ICON 360) was awarded to none other than Yusuf Gideon, the University’s student council’s chairman.

Apart from these awards, some categories got cash prizes and scholarships respectively from thelandmarkians and Del-York Creative Academy. DCA awarded $3000 scholarship to three categories respectively: Actor of the year, Graphics Designer of the year, and Videographer of the year. A cash prize of ₦20,000 to three categories: Content creator of the year, Artist (Musician) of the year and Comedian of the year. Also, there was a giveaway by the CEO of Vorem to ten students interested in taking courses on blockchain, metaverse and artificial intelligence.

This event was a success, thanks to the commitment and dedication of the Skilled Students Award team; Adesokan Adesayo (General secretary & tech lead), Omonjade Mercy (Financial Secretary), Aransiola Oluwaferanmi (Design Director), Amun Godspower (video director), Udechukwu Joshua (Event Manger & VC), Omonjade Godsfavour (chairman skilled awards). And also, the on-campus team and host; Ayodeji Oluwatobi, Fasoranti Tife and their wonderful team for spearheading the whole planning process.

The event was graced with the presence of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Ojediran, Registrar: Engr Adebayo Ajani, Dean Student Affairs: Dr. Abimbola Oluyori, Chaplain: Pastor Abraham John-Oze and a number of faculty members present at the event.

Special thanks to the Omonjade family that supported financially, Mr.&Mrs. Omonjade, Omonjade Nosa, Monday Oribhabor, Omonjade Emmanuel, the CEO Xpose: Emmanuel Mogaji and Korede Adekoya.

The event ended with vote of thanks from the organizer and the Chairman Skilled Students Awards, Omonjade Godsfavour. It was such a graceful event.
