Following the passing of former House of Representatives member, Dr Cairo Ojuogboh, on February 16 at the age of 64, eulogies have been expressed by dignitaries. Describing Ojuogboh as a “National Asset,” notable figures spoke of his legacies of integrity, generosity, selflessness, and loyalty.

A requiem mass was held in Ojuogboh’s honour at the Church of Assumption in Asokoro, Abuja, where former President Goodluck Jonathan, elder statesman Edwin Clark, serving and former members of the National Assembly, and other dignitaries gathered to pay their respects. The night of tributes saw family, friends, and associates reminiscing on their experiences with the chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Senators Uche Ekwunife, Tony Nwoye, and Andrew Idoko, who joined in the mass organised to herald the final burial rites of Ojuogboh. The burial will commence on April 16th in Abuja and conclude on April 21st at Ojuogboh’s ancestral home in Agbor, Delta State.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan offered words of solace to the grieving family, encouraging them to take pride in the legacies Cairo left behind. He hailed Ojuogboh as a politician who stood firmly on his principles, never wavering in his commitment.

Former Senator Andrew Idoko spoke of Ojuogboh’s selflessness in problem-solving, emphasising his loyalty and principled nature. Idoko shared a personal connection of 20 years, highlighting Cairo’s unwavering dedication to providing solutions.

Mr. Joseph D Dogo, Vice Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council, mentioned Ojuogboh’s dedication to the development of the church, expressing that his absence would be deeply felt. Despite numerous national assignments, Cairo remained devoted to the church and made significant contributions to the upliftment of the parish. The circumstances of his passing have left everyone in shock, but the pain is tempered with the understanding that we cannot question God’s plans.

Senator Tony Nwoye, speaking briefly to the press after the mass, extended his condolences to the family, praising Cairo’s exemplary life that serves as an inspiration to all.
