In yet another blow to Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, the national grid collapsed on Thursday, plunging the country into darkness once again. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company relayed this unsettling news to its customers through various social media platforms.

According to reports, the grid failure occurred at approximately 4:28 pm, leaving vast areas without power. The Abuja DisCo issued a statement, informing customers that the outage stemmed from a system failure within the national grid.

“Dear valued customers, please be informed that the current power outage is due to a system failure from the national grid. The system collapsed at about 16:28 hours today, March 28, 2024, causing the outage currently being experienced across our franchise area. We appeal for your understanding as all stakeholders are working hard to restore normal supply,” the statement read.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company echoed similar sentiments, alerting its customers to the situation. “Dear valued customer, kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 16:28 hours which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network. We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as the power supply is restored. Kindly bear with us,” the company stated.

This latest incident marks the fourth national grid collapse this year, underscoring the persistent challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector. As efforts to restore power continue, citizens brace themselves for further disruptions and uncertainties in the already strained electricity supply system.
