Every year, groups of emerging talented designers get rea TVdy to venture into the lion’s den that is the Fashion Industry. But before the turning of the tassel or the tossing of the caps into the air, these emerging designers get to showcase their collections, the culmination of all their hard work, to the world.

As per tradition, I was at the front row of the Ibadan Graduate Fashion Week to scout it all. Menswear collections are difficult; often either camp, self-indulgent or just dull, but Olumide Oyewunmi’s collection placed an emphasis on aesthetic minimalism, embodying a fusion of traditional elegance and contemporary functionality tailored to meet the discerning taste of the sophisticated African gentleman.

The collection seduced us with a range of traditional pieces in long, short, and three-quarter sleeve made from premium plain, patterned and striped fabrics adding depth and character. The music was in sync, the models wore make up that worked and the whole ensemble spoke for itself.

Structural tailored traditional pieces dominate the collection. Inspired from the rich cultural heritage of the continent and embracing modern sensibilities; the theme appreciates understated elegance on the modern gentleman with intricate detailing on the neckline and sleeves, designed to command attention.

Behind each look is a story of Olumide Oyewunmi’s identity conveying feelings of calm and tranquil. Ideal for those who prefer a versatile wardrobe that can adapt to any occasion as every look is meticulously crafted, ensuring both durability and comfort. Ultimately will go a long way in influencing a prospective customer’s buying decisions.
