At least seven people have been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia after they invaded Tseadough, a village in Mbachom, Yaav Ward of Kwande local government area of Benue State.

The invaders were also said to have injured six others and taken a woman from the village hostage while burning several houses in the area.

According to Kwande council chairman Terdoo Nyor Kenti, the armed militia who stormed the village at about midnight while the people were asleep, opened fire and shot sporadically in all directions.

“Seven people were killed in the end, six others were injured while the herdsmen also went away with a woman after burning several houses in the area,” he said.

Daily Sun gathered that the attack, which occurred early hours of Sunday, has left several villagers moving out of the area and surrounding villages in droves for fear of another invasion by the attackers.

The council head, who disclosed that there was no prior problem between the villagers and Fulani herdsmen, wondered why the attackers would come and swoop on his people with no provocation.

Efforts to get the state police command to speak on the matter failed, as calls put to the mobile phone line of Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni were neither picked nor returned at the time of filing this report.
