The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist, who was among the gang that allegedly  killed a Police Inspector in Ijanikin, Lagos.

The  suspect ,Sunday Igboro (aka Ashila) and five others last Sunday, allegedly  murdered the inspector near his house over an undisclosed matter 

The police said they have stepped up manhunt for five other members of the gang, who  are currently on the run.

It was gathered  that the deceased policeman, had  misunderstanding with one of the cult members, who later mobilized his gang members who attacked the deceased .

The killing of the policeman, created tension in the area as residents deserted the streets  for fear of being  caught up in the web of  reprisal attack.

The deceased policeman was attached to Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

According to a policeman officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that he deceased was hacked down by a seven- man- gang of cultists few metres away from his home around 8.40pm.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin,  said  that a member of the gang has been arrested.

The PPRO, said  other members of the gang were currently on the run.

He said, two cutlasses were recovered from the house of one of the fleeing cultists.

According to him,”at about 8pm, someone came to the station to report that a  group of boys, who had misunderstanding with a police  Inspector attached to Zone 2 Headquarters on Friday July 21, 2023. The gang, reinforced and attacked the victim with axes and inflicted injuries on his head.

“A team of policemen, led by  Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ijanikin,CSP Afolabi Kazeem, moved to the scene where they saw  the lifeless body of the victim.

“The suspects fled on sighting the police,but one of them was arrested and a cutlass was recovered from the home of one of  the fleeing suspects” he added.
