The Labour Party (LP) has charged its supporters to be steadfast by fully participating and voting for its governorship and state Houses of Assembly candidates in the March 18 polls.

The chairman of the party in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Peter Chukwuemeka, at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, noted that members would not be discouraged by the outcome of the presidential election.

Chukwuemeka advised those who lost the contest, to give up and accept the will of the people.

He cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against upturning the results of party members who won the election.

He said the call became an expedient sequel to rumours that some persons who lost out were mounting pressure on INEC to tinker with the results in their favour.

“We are asking INEC that conducted this election not to be funny in trying to go behind and tamper with results that have been announced and candidates given certificates of return, celebrated and it is on record worldwide.

“We are advising you to keep the records of this election. The hard copies are with us.

“By the special grace of God, we are telling the FCT INEC not to do anything contrary to the results that have been published because some candidates are going behind refusing to accept the reality of life and the decision of the people.

“We are equally advising our candidates participating in the gubernatorial election on Saturday to go knowing that God will equally help them to win this election,” he said.

In addition, he appreciated FCT residents who vote for the Labour Party candidates in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

According to him, the support reflected the party’s dream of moving Nigeria from the mantra of consumption to a production economy.

“We want to thank all residents of FCT for coming out on Feb 25 to vote for our candidates, even our presidential candidates won with a landslide victory in FCT.

“We also thank all our support groups and their conveners who stood by us to make sure this victory is achieved.

“Our candidate Ireti Kingibe won the senatorial seat and other LP candidates although some were rigged out,” he said.

While clarifying that the party was not in alliance with other parties for Saturday’s governorship and state houses of assembly elections, he urged its candidates in the states to stand strong as God would help them to win.
