Jubilant youths took to the streets of Abuja, yesterday, to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February 23 presidential election.

The youths, mostly traders, artisans, commercial motorcycle operators took their celebrations to the ever-busy Abuja/Keffi Expressway where they blocked the road and, in the proess, prevented motorists and other road users from plying the road.

To ensure the jubilation did not get out of control, solders from the Army Headquarters Garrison, as well as officers of the Nigeria Police Force were drafted to the area to maintain law and order.

Daily Sun’s visit to the scene showed the soldiers trying to plead with the youths to leave the road; to allow motorists have free access especially when the road is gateway for travellers from Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe and Gombe states.

At the time of filing this report, the security personnel were still battling to placate the youths  to vacate the road where they mounted roadblocks.

As a result of that, business and vehicular activities were grounded along that axis.

While some youths rode dangerously in tricycles, others rode on motorcycles chanting ‘sai baba.’

Those who refused to obey or delayed in chanting ‘sai baba’ were molested, beaten and their vehicles smashed.

A witness told Daily Sun that one of the youths who were demonstrating with motorbike slipped off the moving vehicle and died; while the other two had serious injuries.

He said that the deadly celebration started from 1:00am on Wednesday, after Buhari was declared winner in Abuja.

The celebration, which was still ongoing at the time of filing the report, forced shopowners and menial workers around the corridor to shut down.

Children who went to school in the morning were stuck in a gridlock along the axis while some parents, who learnt about the fatal carnival, quickly withdrew their children and wards from school.
