…Marks 20th anniversary

Society of Landscape Architects of Nigeria (SLAN) is advocating sustainable environmental planning and design for a greener future for all. The group made this known as it marked its 20 years of environmental and architectural excellence.

In a statement signed by its National President, Mr Amos Alao, SLAN reaffirms its commitment to dedicated environmental advocacy, professional excellence, and fostering sustainable landscapes.

According to him, SLAN has emerged as a strong voice in landscape architectural space, with a remarkable journey that impacted both local and global communities.

“SLAN has not only raised the standards of landscape architecture within Nigeria, but has contributed immensely to the international discourse on environmental stewardship.

“In our 20-year journey, we have been at the vanguard of advocating climate change awareness and action. Our unwavering dedication to addressing climate change and related challenges has brought about positive changes in policies, practices, and public perception.

“SLAN’s initiatives have resonated beyond the shores of Nigeria, inspiring a global community to take proactive steps towards a greener and more sustainable future.

“Our 20th anniversary marks a remarkable milestone in our continuous pursuit of creating harmonious landscapes that enhance the well-being of both people and the planet,” he affirmed.

Alao who commended SLAN members for their support so far added that SLAN held series of events and activities for the anniversary which include: seminars, workshops, exhibitions, launch of its new constitution and community engagement initiatives.

“Over the past two decades, members have collaborated tirelessly to shape environments that balance nature’s beauty with functionality, while championing the need to combat climate change. The events would raise awareness about the critical role of landscape architecture in addressing environmental challenges.

“As SLAN look ahead to the next chapter, we remain committed to our core values of innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. With a dynamic membership and a growing network of collaborators, SLAN is poised to continue its impactful contributions to a more sustainable and resilient future,” he added.

Founded in June 2003, with over 120 members, SLAN has established itself as a leading force in promoting sustainable and resilient landscapes across Nigeria.

As an affiliate of the International Federation of Landscape Architects, it collaborates on a global scale to promote sustainable design and planning.
