The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) announced the surrender of six Boko Haram members following the launch of Operation Lake Sanity 2.

The operation aims to eliminate Boko Haram terrorists and their hideouts in the Lake Chad region.

Chief Military Public Information Officer Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi stated that the terrorists surrendered due to the intense pressure from the operation.

On April 17, a 19-year-old Boko Haram member named Alhaji Ali surrendered to troops in Monguno, Nigeria. He revealed his affiliation with the Buduma faction for three years and expressed growing discontent within the group.

On April 25, two more terrorists, Haoudou Sedik (37) and Kadja Ousman (21), surrendered to troops in Blangua, Cameroon. They hailed from Chad and resided in Kami-Wari and Kourea, respectively.

The surrenders continued on April 26th, when Mohammed Abdulraman (38), his wife Sadiya, and their two children surrendered with a hand grenade to troops in Baga, Nigeria. Abdulraman, a foot soldier since 2017, cited internal crisis and the influence of Operation Nashrul Salam as reasons for their defection.

On April 27, Yusuf Umaru (25) surrendered to troops in Kekeno, Nigeria. He revealed he was abducted by Boko Haram in 2020 and forced to work as a storeroom keeper on Lake Chad islands.

The MNJTF urges remaining Boko Haram members to surrender and embrace peace. They reiterate their commitment to restoring peace and stability in the Lake Chad Basin.
