Acting Director General, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Abdulateef Shittu has resumed office and has been tasked with leading the forum towards enhancing intergovernmental collaboration, fostering innovative solutions to challenges, and ensuring effective policy implementation for sustainable development across all state.

He succeeds Asishana Okauru, who voluntarily retire after 15 years on the saddle.

Okauru on Saturday 19th of May, in a letter addressed to the forum titled, “Notice of Voluntary Retirement”, said that his retirement will be effective Monday, July 1, 2024, and pre-retirement leave is scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2024.

He expressed profound gratitude for the support he has received throughout his tenure.

“I wish to formally inform you of my voluntary retirement from the service of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat on Friday 17 May 2024 effective Monday 1 July 2024.

“My pre-retirement leave commences on Monday 20 May 2024.

“I deeply appreciate your invaluable support during my journey as Director General.

“Thank you and my very best wishes,” he said.

Through its X-handle @NGFSecretariat, the staff hailed Okauru’s 15 years meritorious service, saying he leaves behind “a legacy of leadership and commitment.”

It said: “Today at the secretariat, staff members bid farewell to Asishana Okauru, the outgoing Director-general of the NGF. After 15 years of dedicated service, he retires, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and commitment.

“As we welcome new leadership, we look forward to continuing our mission with renewed energy and vision. Thank you @asishanaokauru , for your invaluable contributions, and best wishes for your future endeavors!”

The retirement of Okauru was accepted by the Chairman of the Forum, and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, who commended his years of dedicated service to the NGF.

Shittu, previously the Executive Director of Strategy and Research at the NGF Secretariat, has extensive experience and outstanding performance in public administration and governance.

The NGF expressed confidence in Shittu’s ability to advance the Forum’s strategic initiatives.

The NGF reaffirmed its dedication to its mission and objectives, expressing optimism that Shittu will provide the necessary continuity and stability during this transition.
