Leadership of Niger Delta Peace and Development Advocates has condemned calls by a South South group for Senator Godswill Akpabio to be elected as President of the 10th Senate.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Porthacourt, President of the group, Comrade Kelvin Ebi-Thomas described such calls as selfish and against the interest of Nigeria.

The statement recalled that during his time as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Akpabio almost killed NDDC with his divisive politics and lack of interest for the development of the region.

It notes that Senator Akpabio has proved over time that he cannot be trusted with leadership position as he has used such positions held in the past to satisfy few interests, to the detriment of the larger population.

NDPDA said the emergence of Senator Kalu as President of the 10th Senate will give the people of the South East region a sense of belonging and called on all those scheming to be President of the Senate to drop their ambition in the interest of fairness equity and justice.

The statement further appealed to Senators of the incoming 10th Senate and other critical stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to throw their weight behind Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid to become the President of the 10th Senate, assuring that he won’t let them and Nigerians down.
