Just before the lockdown caused by COVID-19 in March, the fashion brand Richhanz Signatures, managed by CEO Favour Ofeimun, showcased a ground-breaking collection titled “Timeless Heritage” on the 15th of February 2020, in Katsina state. This pivotal event marked a significant milestone for the brand, highlighting the unique blend of traditional Northern Nigerian kaftan designs with contemporary fashion elements.

The core vision behind this shoot was to celebrate the Northern traditional kaftan, known for its length and elegance, and contrast it with the more modern styles found in the southern parts of Nigeria. Favour Ofeimun aimed to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Northern Nigeria through fashion, creating pieces that honour tradition while appealing to modern tastes.

Look 1: A Cultural Fusion at Kofar-Kaura Roundabout

The first look was shot at the iconic Kofar-Kaura roundabout, a monument deeply ingrained in the cultural identity of Katsina. This roundabout features a symbolic brew container known as Kwaryar-fura, representing the local drink given to guests as a sign of respect, hospitality, and humility by the Hausa/Fulani tribe. This backdrop provided a perfect setting for showcasing the first look of the collection: a striking black kaftan adorned with polka dot patches, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and modernity.

The second look was captured at the historic Katsina Royal Palace, also known as Gidan Korau.
