The House of Representatives has called on Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola to expedite action towards repairing three bridges in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State.

The House said absence of protective railings on the bridges located along the Abuja-Lokoja highway has led to a number of fatal accidents.

The House, in adopting a motion sponsored by Hon. Tony Nwoye, urged Fashola to prioritise repair of the bridges.

The chamber also mandated its Committee on Works to liaise with the minister, to ensure compliance with the resolution.

Nwoye, in his lead debate on the motion, expressed concern over the dilapidated state of the bridges, and said it was time the Federal Government intervened.

“The absence of rails on the bridges constitute a grave risk to motorists that use this highway connecting the northern and southern halves of Nigeria.

“Accidents have occurred on these bridges leading to loss of lives. The severity of such accidents could have been lessened if vehicles were prevented from plunging into the river,” Nwoye said.
