The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed into second reading A Bill for a Law to Regulate the Establishment and Operation of Private Nursery, Primary, Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions in Nasarawa State and Other Matters Connected Therewith.

This, the House said that the bill if passed would tackle quackery and promote quality education in the State.

Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into second reading during the House proceedings on Wednesday in Lafia.

The Speaker said that the bill would help to reduce the level of decay in the education system as well as promote and enhance education standard in line with global best practices in the State.

” A Bill for a Law to Regulate the Establishment and Operation of Private Nursery , Primary, Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions in Nasarawa State and Other Matters Connected Therewith passes second reading,” he said

The Speaker said that the bill if passed would also ensure quality and sound education in the state.

The Speaker committed the bill to the House committee on Education, Science and Technology to work on it and report back to the House in four weeks time.

In their contributions, Hon Danladi Jatau, Hon Peter Akwe, Hon Solomon Akwashiki, Hon Muhammad Oyanki , Hon Hudu A Hudu supported the need for the bill to scale second reading.

They said that the bill was timely and would promote good education in the state.

They also said that the bill if passed and assented to would tackle quackery in the education sector.

Earlier, Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading.

Omadefu said that the bill was to empower the ministry of Education to regulate the establishment of private schools in the state.

” This is a bill that was presented by His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule in order to checkmate the excesses of private schools in the state.

” As we are aware that there is proliferation of private schools in the state and the bill will provide guidelines for the establishment and operation of private schools in the state, ” he said.

Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House seconded the motion.

The House unanimously passed the bill into second reading.
