Nina Adaba is the brain behind Purple Dove, a fashion outlet. Her designs make heads turn. Men and women of style hunger for her detailed hand crafted works.  To let the flavour go round, her label was recently unveiled at her Park View Estate, Ikoyi recently. In a short interview she says, “Fashion is my passion; it gives me joy when my client smiles home with my outfit.”

It was not just a day to showcase creativity and style; but also to unwind.  The first segment saw the array of dress jackets which could be worn on jeans, pants and  simple to sophisticated skirts. Smart beautiful dresses, long flowing gowns and appliqued jackets, beaded Caribbean skirts were all displayed. Whatever  that adds glamour to a lady’s wardrobe is readily available at Purple Dove.

The show was not meant for  women alone; men were also caught in the web as their Buba and Sokoto , Kaftans, Danshiki, Agbada, and Resource Control  were crafted  in different  fabrics.  The day was not only about  clothing but the proper way to have a total package.  Other colourful varieties that spiced up the show include a mix of Ankara and other fabrics designed with Rhine stones, sequence, sea beads and Swarovski stones to embellish her sophisticated designs.

Adaba who studied Fashion and Design in far away  Venezuela says her uniqueness lies in the fact that her fabrics and styles are not monotonous. “I do not duplicate my client’s outfit. Whatever you purchase from Purple Dove is exclusive to you and that is where my strength lies. Again, the process,  from start to finish, is not a child’s play. When we purchase the fabrics, we strengthen them for a longer life span before designs and finishing details take place.”

The beauty of all her designs is that almost all are made from African fabrics but with a foreign touch.  Ask Adaba who her clothes are meant for and she’ll gladly tell you  “My outfits are meant for men and women of style; those who appreciate style and hand crafted works.”
