Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ayodeji Ogundele, has warned parents not to allow their children to be used as willing tool in the hands of politicians.

He promised that police would maintain peace before, during and after tomorrow’s election: “The command and the other security agencies invited party leaders and contestants in the state to sign peace accord towards ensuring free, fair and credible election tomorrow.

“The accord is to remind all political stakeholders that their utterances, activities and movements must be in compliance with the law, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act and their parties’ constitutions.

“We encourage everyone to abreast themselves with the provision of the Electoral Act and the Public Order Act to ensure issue-based campaigns and the overall success of the good of all.

“We call on religious leaders to continuously preach peace and moral values in their various communities. This will enlighten their wards against violence through constant meetings and sensitisation.

“The command shall be hosting teams of international electoral observers across the country to ensure compliance level. We signed this peace accord and we believe that everybody will abide by it. We look forward to a peaceful election.

“Political parties, contestants and their followers should refrain from provocative speeches and circulation of wrong information or misinformation especially through social media.” He praised police and other security agencies for their efforts in ensuring that there were no attacks on INEC facilities: “This helped INEC to provide a level playing environment for all aspirants.”
