The Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its performance in the governorship and state assembly election held across the country on Saturday. 

NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) said based on preliminary reports by the 210 observers deployed across by his group the country, there was an improvement in INEC performance in Saturday’s elections as compared with the February 25 presidential and National Assembly polls.

Speaking at the NBA situation room in Abuja, Maikyau,  noted that said based on the preliminary reports from its election observers nationwide, INEC has scored 33.6 % so far as at 1pm.
The NBA President noted that, by the preliminary reports, “there is significant improvement in the deployment of polling materials and personnel by INEC.

“INEC officials arrived polling units on time and voting already commenced at 8:30am.

“This appears to be the trend across the nation. NBA equally reported that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System(BVAS) functioned very well during the election and that voting ended earlier unlike the previous election.”

He said his group’s observers noted pockets of violence in some states including Lagos.

Maikyau commended the conduct of security personnel and party agents during the election, but noted that some polling units were not manned by security agents.

The NBA President assured that his group will continue to update Nigerians as its observers send in reports.
